:: read for life!
Read for Life! allows our club to become a leading source in our community for providing its children, without charge or obligation, the types of vital reading opportunities that have been so valuable to shaping the lives and futures of children. It is within our reach and our resources to provide to the children of Redlands an unlimited supply of books and in turn fantasies, adventures, knowledge, power and opportunity. We can bring these resources to the children, interact with them and serve as their humble role models by implementing and committing to the Read for Life! project.

A cargo trailer, proudly adorned with the Redlands Sunrise Rotary logo and equipped with fully-stocked bookshelves is the springboard for Read for Life! Our club members will pull the trailer as frequently as we want, and our resources allow, to the many events and locations at which the children of the community gather, such as those sponsored by the city's recreation/police department, Boys and Girls Club, parades, community celebrations (Fourth of July, Bike Classic, Run through Redlands, etc.) Once at the location, the trailer is staffed by a number of Rotarians and perhaps other volunteers who will distribute the books (each one stamped with our club logo and contact information) and talk with the children. The books we give away will be the children's to keep, enjoy and, if they like, share. We also arrange to have "Story Time" with guest readers and other such similar special events. These outings will serve as an exciting time for members of Redlands Sunrise Rotary to interact with the community, create interest and awareness in our programs and truly place "Service above Self". By participating in Read for Life!, our members will regularly enjoy the emotional experience of giving a child his or her first "very own book to keep" and perhaps help shape a life.

A logical extension of Read for Life! Is to also stock and circulate books and periodicals to the community's elderly population at various long term care/community centers in Redlands. These facilities have a tremendous need for visual/mental stimulation and meaningful human interactions which a program such as this could address. A book and magazine "recycling program" in which club and community members are requested to drop off their used books and magazines at designated locations will also be implemented to help keep our shelves stocked.

Now Accepting Donations of Children's Books!

Redlands Sunrise Rotary is proud to announce "Read For Life", a community-based literacy program designed to put books in the hands of children. Through this program, other children and their families can share the books you have previously enjoyed with your children. Redlands Sunrise Rotary has made arrangements with numerous businesses in town to become "recycle centers" where you can conveniently drop-off outgrown children's books. Sunrise Rotarians will periodically collect the books and redistribute them, free of charge, at various community events. Community response to the program has been tremendous with more than 4000 children's books having been "recycled" to local kids over the past year alone.

To donate books to the program, contact Bryan Reid at 951-323-2594 or drop off your books at any of our designated "recycle centers" listed above.

BECOME A LITERACY PARTNER!

Redlands Sunrise Rotary Club's Read For Life! program involves the recycling of outgrown children's books to kids in the community. The club has established numerous recycling centers around town where parents and kids drop off books they have outgrown. Club members then pick up the books, load them into our Rotary trailer and take them to community events to give them away to other families. This program has resulted in the collection and distribution of thousands of books, and will remain an enduring, high-profile community service opportunity for the club. Funding for the program comes entirely from Redlands Sunrise Rotary and its Literacy Partners. There is never a charge to the children or families who receive the books.

We invite you to support this worthy and well-received program by joining us as a Literacy Partner. For your initial donation of $1000 and thereafter annual renewal contributions of $200 you will not only help spread the gift of literacy throughout the community, but will also
receive:
• Your corporate logo prominently displayed on the Read For Life! trailer
• Recognition in promotional materials prepared in conjunction with the program
• Your corporate logo displayed and a link to your website on the club's website
